Yesterday, after I had scoured the Internet looking for a free embroidery design for an "In the Hoop" hand sanitizer holder, I finally found one! This design was offered by Designsbylittlebee.com and it featured a project that is totally completed in the embroidery hoop except for the addition of a snap that is applied either before or after the project is sewn.
I changed the thread color in the design so that I didn't have to rethread my machine after every color change.
I used a varigated blue thread that closely looks like the colors of a mermaid. I used vinyl for this project even though I also have leather.
I have about two yards of black vinyl so I had plenty. This project uses a very small amount of fabric.
I love the final outcome and I can see myself making several of these for family and friends.
Due to the pandemic, I carry hand sanitizer in a side pocket of my purse everywhere that I go. I use it when I can't wash my hands with soap and water.
The appeal of this design is that I can attach it to the side of my purse or onto the belt loops of a pair of pants.
If you have been followig my posts, it may feel that I am all over the place with my projects. Uh . . . I am. I am discovering all sorts of projects and potential with this new machine and I want to get my money's worth.
I love the fact that I can use materials that I already have at home and produce something that is useful. It would have been nice to add a cute colorful snap on the outside, but all I had available were the regular dress snaps that are not usually seen, so I used what I had already.
There are also free patterns available online that can be printed out and sewn on a regular sewing machine too. They typically are associated with a YouTube video that illustrates step by step processes. I am going to make another one today for my son who is visiting me for a few days. I needed some work done around my house and I feel more comfortable with my son inside than some stranger. I also appreciate the fact that my son wears a mask whenever we cannot be socially distant. This is a new world. There is a phrase that is used when students are taught about evolution. It is "change, adapt or die". I am making adaptations during this pandemic to stay alive.
