Yesterday I made another mask. I am constantly getting new patterns and new designs in my newsfeed for various types of face masks. Since I have a lot of time on my hands, and a lot of fabric, I tend to make a different face mask every other day.
A couple of days ago, I saw an extension for a face mask that allows a person to put the elastic on two buttons instead of behind your ears. The concept was very simple and it keeps the back of your ears from becoming irritated from constant wearing of the masks.
Well I also have a huge stock of yarn, so I crocheted one and sewed on two buttons. I did not use the pattern that was provided on ravelry. Instead I measured the distance from the back of my ear to the back of my other ear and then begin to work.
I chose a cotton yarn instead of acrylic so that it would wash easily and not stretch. I also chose a color that coordinated with the last mask that I made.
Crafters and seamstresses are making money and donating masks to health care workers during this pandemic. People that I know who owned sewing machines that have been gathering dust are pulling them out to make masks for their families.
Once the country is no longer under quarantine, we may still have to wear masks for a while when out in public. I know for a fact that once I start to fly again, that I will be wearing a mask whenever I get on an airplane.
