Welcome to all the followers of this wonderful "Amazing Nature" community. I know it’s been a long time since I last shared the scientific explorations we used to conduct in the city center; the thing is, this charming "place" is absolutely beautiful—it’s the perfect setting for "learning" about the lovely plants found within this delightful space.

To be completely honest, my desire to walk here isn't because I dislike the city; it’s just that I feel much more comfortable taking what I call “photowalks” here. As a nature enthusiast, I’ve always been particularly drawn to the natural world, and walking here offers plenty of interesting subjects to photograph—including the beautiful palm trees scattered across one of the first meadows on the property.

One of the plants I had the opportunity to photograph this week originates from Africa; it is well-known across much of the world, though it goes by a different name in each place. What I like about this plant is its simplicity—likely the reason it is found in so many gardens, where it adds beautiful color to specific spots. It is also worth noting that, depending on the conditions, many people grow it as an indoor plant.

This peculiar plant reminds me of the gardens my mother used to have; she loves this type of plant—specifically those with multicolored leaves—because they help highlight areas of the garden with vibrant, non-flowering foliage. Whenever I read about the origins of various plants, I often wonder how they ended up here; for instance, these are native to India. I always try to imagine who brought them here, and under what circumstances they arrived in this part of the world. From what I’ve read, some species of these plants must be handled with care, as their leaves contain a sap that can be toxic. This came as a surprise to me, especially since in some countries they are cultivated not only for ornamental purposes but also for their supposed healing properties.

During my walk through the reserve, encountering plants that evoke fond memories, I cannot help but think back to the times when I used to play with various plants found in the neighborhood meadow. This “plant” is one of them—who hasn’t stopped to play a fun game using the flower buds that sprout from it? This is another “specimen” that has ended up far from its place of origin, and it is remarkable to see how well it has adapted to many parts of the world. Interestingly, it possesses healing properties for various types of ailments; some people even use it to prepare drinks. It is also worth noting that many bird species feed on its seeds, and people, too, use it as an ingredient in various recipes.
