Salamat Sa Diyos at Umulan Na! (Thank God the Rain Finally Came!)

Sa loob ng dalawang buwan of higit pa, nagtiis kami sa napakainit na panahon. Ang heat index sa aming lugar ay umabot hanggang 47 degrees Celsius. Merong ibang bahagi ng Pilipinas, merong lumampas ng 50 degrees ang heat index. Masakit... nakakapaso ang init ng araw, at sa loob ng halos dalawang buwan, hindi umulan.

For the past two months or more, we enduring the scorching weather. The heat index in our place reached as high as 47 degrees Celsius. There are few places in the Philippines where the heat index reached more than 50 degrees Celsius. The sun's heat is scorching. Within almost to months or so, there was not a drop of rain.

Para Mabawasan ang Init Pag Gabi

Wala kaming Aircondition sa bahay. Napakaiinit kahit gabi na. Kahit tatlong electric fan na ang gamit namin, maiinit pa rin. Nahihirapang makatulog ang mga bata dahil sa init.

Ang ginawa ko, nilalagyan ko ng bote ng tubig na nilagay ko sa freezer para lumamig ang hangin galing sa electric fan. Kung minsan ice.

To Reduce the Heat at Night

We don't have an airconditioning unit at home. It's uncomfortably hot even at night. It's still hot even we are already using three electric fans. The kids could not sleep well because of the extreme heat.

What I do is I place a frozen bottle of water in front of the electric fan. This way the air is cooled down a bit. Sometimes, I place ice. At least this way, the kids would feel cool enough to sleep.

Buwan ng Mayo, Pero Halos Wala Pa Ring Ulan

Noon, ang tag-ulan ay nagsisimula sa buwan ng Mayo. Sabi nga nila, biyaya daw ang unang patak ng ulan sa buwan ng Mayo. Ngunit sa taong ito, halos hindi umulan sa lugar namin. Minsan kumukulimlim lang. Minsan nabalitaan na lang namin na umulan kaunti sa karatig bayan. Pero hindi sa lugar namin.

Noong patapos na ang Mayo, umulan ng kaunti noong maguumaga. Pero hindi sapat para maibsan ang init. Sa katunanay, mas lalong tumaas ang heat index dahil tumaas ang humidity.

The Month of May, But There Was No Rain

In the years past, the rainy season starts in May. The old folks even says the first raindrop in May is a blessing. However, there was hardly any rain in our place this year. Sometimes dark clouds wouls momentarily cover the skies, but there was no rain. Sometimes, we hear that it rained in the neighboring towns, but no in our place. In the last days of May though, it did rain just before dawn. However, it was not enough to dampen the heat. In fact, the heat index worsened because of the higher humidity.

June 5, maghahating gabi. Hindi ko na maalala kung anong oras na iyon. Pero, parang tunog ng musika nung marinig ko ang sunod sunod na patak ng ulan sa bubong namin. Me kalakasan ang ulan. Malamig na ang hangin kaya napasarap ang tulog namin.

Sa isip ko, sana tumagal pa ang ulan. At tumagal nga. Umabot halos ika-siyam umaga. Masarap sa pakiramdam ang malamig na hangin na dulot ng ulan.

Thank God the Rain Finally Came!

June 6, nearing midnight. I can't remember exactly what time it was. But it was music to my ears when I heard the raindrops fell on our roof. It was a bit heavy. The evening air is cool. So cool that we slept in comfort that night.

I was hoping the rain would last long. It did. In fact, it lasted upto almost 9 in the morning. The cool air due to the rain feels good.
