Ratargul Reservoir is a freshwater reservoir located in Goainghat in Sylhet district in Bangladesh. This is the first freshwater wetland in Bangladesh, but several other freshwater wetlands have been found in Bangladesh since then. There are very few freshwater wetlands in the world, Ratargul wetland or swamp forest is one of them. It is known as one of the best tourist centers of Bangladesh.
Ratargul Swamp Forest are inundated for half or more of the year. Waterlogging is common in these forests during monsoons. Apart from the rainy season, the height of water here is about 10 feet. Ratargul Swamp Forest is rich in flora and fauna. Notable plants here include Hijal, Chatim, Arjuna, Kadam etc.
Notable fauna of this forest includes a variety of snakes, birds, monkeys and fish. Being submerged in water, this forest has a strange beauty. Forest trees are mostly inundated with water.
