In my last social media post I talked about some general considerations for where to start with leveling up. I talked about going wide before going tall.
I expect that many of you already have most of the cards that I'll talk about in this post, but you may find a new card or 2 that's worth trying out. Most of these are also quite inexpensive at this point compared to when I started playing Splinterlands.
When I started playing Splinterlands, I soon becamse familiar with magic spamming which at the time involved pairing Alric with whichever magic monsters would fit under the mana cap. The monster that showed up most frequently on the other side of the battlefield was Venari Wavesmith. The protect ability is fairly overpowered and I still use Wavesmith all the time.
The regular foil version of this can be found for about 5 cents per copy. I highly recommend buying at least 1 copy if you're so new to the game that you don't have one yet.
Other must have magic attackers for the water splinter include Djinn Oshannus, River Nymph, River Hellondale and Nerissa Tridawn. The most expensive card in this group is River Hellondale. These pair great with any water or dragon summoner. The best pairing in the wild format is probably Alric Stormbringer, but if that's too rich for your blood then you can try Delwyn Dragonscale or just rent an Alric.
After getting through bronze you may encounter opponents who are ready to counter the magic spam battle plan. A great way to do this is also in the water splinter with Bortus as your summoner to debuff your opponent's magic attacks.
This pairs beautifully with void monsters like Torhilo the Frozen
And once again Djinn Oshannus.
Other great cards to consider adding to your water splinter collection include in no particular order: Axemaster, Wave Brood, Merdaali Guardian, Sea Monster, Demented Shark, Naga Windmaster and Possibilus the Wise.
When picking out new cards to buy or even rent, it's important to consider whether you'll be playing in modern or wild format. Some of the cards and strategies that I've discussed are not options in the modern format. I left off most of the "ghost cards" because I expect that pretty much all of my readers will be familiar with these and almost all of them are worth playing on a fairly regular basis.
I would love to hear what some of your favorite cards are from the water splinter and any stories about cards that seem to always beat you.
I hope this post has been helpful and informative. Thanks for reading and thanks for all the upvotes, reblogs, comments and follows. I'll see you in the game.
