Today I would like to talk about going wide in the life splinter. When I think about the life splinter, I think about ranged attacks.
In my experience these cards are some of the most impactful that you can pick up for your life splinter deck.
- Ilthain
As pictured at the top of this page Ilthain is a summoner that gives your whole team the return fire ability and +1 speed. Think about some of the more popular lineups in life splinter battles. The most direct counter for all of those ranged attacks is to send them right back. I think this is the best summoner from Riftwatchers and the only one that I've used with any regularity.
- Venari Crystalsmith
When I play a deck from the life splinter it has Venari Crystalsmith near the back of the line more than 90% of the time. The tank heal ability is so good. This card is also dirt cheap in terms of mana cost and dollar cost. If you don't already have a copy, it's well worth the few cents they cost. This card does get better as you level it up but the first copy is the most impactful and it's great at level 1.
- Corsair Bosun
Another great and hugely impactful card from Riftwatchers. Many of the cards that Riftwatchers introduced are big mana and this set introduced a lot of reach monsters. Corsair Bosun is the best of both these worlds. The reflection shield ability is the best thing to pair with reach and this is the best reflection shield monster that I own so far. This monster pairs wonderfully with Ilthain in the explosive weaponry ruleset and plenty of other rulesets too.
- Prismologist
This monster deals a lot of damage, usually 5 or 6 under normal circumstances. 4 to the opponent's tank when paired with General Sloan and 2 to the next monster in line.
Other great life splinter cards to consider adding to your collection in no particular order include:
Divine Healer
Silvershield Knight
Pelacor Conjurer
Dumacke Exile
Silvershield Assassin
Silvershield Sheriff
Djinn Renova
Dax Paragon
Adelade Brightwing
Grandmaster Rathe
Armorsmith
Clay Golem
Crystal Werewolf
Uriel the Purifier
Lorna Shine
Hero of Beyond and
Kralus
When picking out new cards to buy or even rent, it's important to consider whether you'll be playing in modern or wild format. Some of the cards that I've mentioned are not options in the modern format. I left off most of the "ghost cards" because I expect that pretty much all of my readers will be familiar with these and almost all of them are worth playing on a fairly regular basis.
I would love to hear what some of your favorite cards are from the earth splinter and any stories about cards that seem to always beat you.
