Today I would like to talk about going wide in the earth splinter. Some of the most impactful cards from the earth splinter are a bit pricey, but I think that at least these first 2 are well worth it.
Mylor Crowling
As pictured at the top of this page Mylor is a summoner that gives your whole team the thorns ability. Think about some of the more popular lineups in low mana cap battles. You're probably picturing something from the fire splinter headed by Tarsa or something from the death splinter with Cursed Windeku as a tank. Most of these lineups get destroyed by Mylor lineups. I usually will start my Mylor lineups with either Unicorn Mustang or Mycelic Infantry as my tank. Mycelic Infantry is fairly inexpensive and Unicorn Mustang has come down dramatically in price over the past few months (as have many cards from Untamed).Queen Mycelia
Queen Mycelia is overpowered with the protect ability for just 4 mana. This monster fits perfectly right behind your tank in the sort of Mylor lineup that I described for a low mana battle. I use Queen Mycelia almost every time that I play a battle with the earth splinter.
These next couple of cards might break the bank. I have played with them, but I do not currently own a copy. I would suggest renting so that you understand the power of these cards, but they are pricey.
- Scarred Llama
This summoner from the Untamed set is super powerful. It's not the only one either. As incredible as this summoner is, it's probably just the third most powerful from the Untamed set behind Kitty and Yodin. Llama gives your whole team +2 health and the last stand ability. It also cleanses your tank each round which is incredible for the noxious fumes ruleset. I think Llama pairs best with a lowish mana cap and a big self healing monster on a last stand.
- Kron the Undying
Here's one of those big self healing monsters that I was talking about. When I first became familiar with the combination of Llama Kron, I would just skip to the results of my loss when I saw it on the other side of the battlefield. Kron has come down a decent bit in price and does face competition from a few other big monsters in the earth splinter, but this is an iconic card and very powerful.
Other great earth splinter cards to consider adding to your collection in no particular order include:
Fungus Fiend
Immortalis
Grund
Mitica Headhunter
Hunter Jarx
Mushroom Seer
Stone Golem
Centauri Mage
Goblin Sorcerer and
Wood Nymph
When picking out new cards to buy or even rent, it's important to consider whether you'll be playing in modern or wild format. Some of the cards that I've mentioned are not options in the modern format. I left off most of the "ghost cards" because I expect that pretty much all of my readers will be familiar with these and almost all of them are worth playing on a fairly regular basis.
I would love to hear what some of your favorite cards are from the earth splinter and any stories about cards that seem to always beat you.
