I'm hoping this line of thought can be a great place to start for several upcoming articles.
Leveling up your deck can be a daunting task.
There are a couple of big aspects to leveling up your deck in Splinterlands. One part of this is going wide. By going wide I mean buying up new cards that aren't already in your collection. The other part of leveling up is getting more copies of the cards you have to combine, so that they become more powerful, I guess we can call that going tall.
When I first started working with my deck I focused primarily on going wide. My efforts at going tall have mostly happened over the past few months and I've had to balance that with piling up SPS.
When you level up your deck it's always an option to test things out with rentals before you fully commit.
Typical card rentals are just a few DEC per day and you can rent cards for as few as 2 days.
When I first started playing, most of the cards that I bought were the cards that consistently beat me. In retrospect I think this was a great way to go wide and this is a great place to start with building your collection.
The first individual card that I started to level up (going tall) was Venari Bonesmith.
I think that I bought 60 copies to get to level 6 and that 2nd magic damage.
In retrospect, this was a poor move. I tried playing my leveled up Bonesmith, but on the battlefield it always had just 1 magic damage and 3 health. I think it took me a couple of days to figure out that you have to pair you leveled up monsters with leveled up summoners to get their full potential.
When you're ready to start going tall a little bit, I would recommend starting with dragon summoners which will have the opportunity to pair with the most monsters. It's worth remembering that if you get a legendary summoner, it's already at max level for bronze which allows you to play level 3 common monsters, level 2 rare monsters and level 2 epic monsters.
Conversely, some of the first monsters you'll want to level up are neutral, because they can be paired with any summoners that you have leveled up.
I would love to hear your experiences leveling up. What individual cards would you recommend leveling up for a newbie? What are some cards that give you a headache on the other side of the battlefield that you had to scoop up for yourself.
