Here's the ruleset
I think it's worth pointing out that the Holy Protection ruleset with this high mana battle means that each team has the ability to soak up 6 extra hits across their team. There are a couple of abilities that help you to get extra hits in against your opponent which are both illustrated here. Double Strike means that if Grund's first hit against a monster is soaked up by it's Divine Shield then the second hit will still count. Blast from Chaos Dragon and my opponent's Goblin Tower can clear that first Divine Shield for 2 or even 3 monsters.
Lineup:
Summoner: Delwyn Dragonscale
Delwyn buffs all of my magic attacks. Delwyn also happens to be the only summoner that I have any kind of leveled up.
Tank: Robo-Dragon Knight
Robo-Dragon Knight is such a great tank in so many ways. The biggest priority in a proper tank is to be able to take some hits. I was thinking magic in this ruleset and I figured that my opponent might think the same thing. Having Void is outstanding. I generally like to have the Void or Shield ability on my tank depending on what I expect from my opponent. Thorns are also an excellent ability to have on your tank. Even if I'm facing something besides magic from my opponent then the Dragon Knight comes with Divine Shield at level 1, so the first hit's always free even if the ruleset doesn't give it to everyone. The Dragon Knight also has a high shield total and a high life total. 3 melee is solid if unspectacular, but the attack is possibly the least important part of Robo-Dragon Knight as a tank.
1st position: Grund
Grund piles on a lot of damage right out of the gate. 3 melee attack is good and it's twice as good with Grund because of the Double Strike ability. Grund also comes with a high life total which is great, but 10 damage doesn't seem like enough for Grund to get into most battles for me. With a melee attack Grund only swings from the first position unless there's a helpful ruleset involved. When the mana cap is high enough to use Grund those 10 life go away pretty quick. When my opponent's use Grund it seems to come up while I'm using Mylor as my summoner and Grund is usually gone in the first round after taking 4 thorns damage in addition to the damage that my Monsters inflict.
I like to use Grund in 3 situations:
I have Mycelic Slipspawn in the back to soak up a few hits and allow Grund to live for a couple of rounds.
The Super Sneak ruleset which we see here. This allows Grund to lay into my opponents from behind a proper tank.
The Melee Mayhem ruleset for the same reason.
2nd position: Queen Mycelia
All of the monsters with the Protect ability are great. The best ones is Queen Mycelia and the next best is Venari Wavesmith because their attack ignores the sort of armor that they give everyone and can be attached to a summoner that increases it even further. Queen Mycelia takes that cake because of the lower mana cost which allows placement in Little League matches and Queen Mycelia scales better with additional premium abilities when leveled up.
3rd position: Wood Nymph
2 magic damage and healing for a superb tank in this battle.
4th position: Goblin Psychic
3 magic damage and healing for a superb tank in this battle.
5th position (rear tank): Chaos Dragon
For those that have seen my prior posts, you know that I love Chaos Dragon. This card is the reason that I leveled up my Delwyn. The combination of magic damage with Blast and Scattershot is devastating.
Did my strategy work?
Yes, I got a big W here.
Do I like Grund?
Yes, I think it's an incredible card offensively. On the receiving end it doesn't seem to hold up to big attacks which makes positioning very improtant.
What will I try differently next time?
In this Super Sneak ruleset I should have anticipated a lot of melee damage to my rear tank. I could have taken out Grund or Wood Nymph, moved everyone else up and placed Mycelic Infantry or Djinn Chwala behind Chaos Dragon. I think that keeping things as they were gets the edge though as Chaos Dragon has plenty of armor and life to take a few hits and both of these monsters have abilities that pair up beautifully against this Holy Protection ruleset.
