So now you’ve filmed your video and you’ve got what looks like a pretty professional video, especially if you have followed this guide so far (parts 1 – 3 can be found here). But hold on – it’s not ready just yet! If you truly want to take your video to the next level, then you need to flex your post-production editing muscles.

As it happens, this is also where 99% of Hollywood’s movie magic comes from. While you’re not necessarily looking for super-impressive CGI, spending some time trimming the fat out of your video. Don’t let flabby bits – such as speakers hesitating, or overly-long shots extend the runtime too much.

You can also play with transitions and other cool stuff at this stage – depending on your editor, you’ll have different options, so have a play around and see what looks good. Don’t forget that attention spans are dwindling, so the shorter you can make it, the better – grab their attention in the first 30 seconds and keep it short! One other thing to think about is video subtitles.

These are actually becoming more and more necessary as videos are auto-muted (especially on social media) and may watch them at work. Aside from giving huge accessibility to non-native English speakers and those who suffer hearing problems, you’re making the communicatively of your video that much hire. This is slowly becoming more common, so consider staying ahead of the trend here.

By now you should have an amazing video, not to mention an appreciation of the work that goes into so many of the ‘free’ videos we watch every day. Master this craft, and you will be thoroughly in-demand – and make a ton of money!
