New Year in the Philippines is known for having extravagant fireworks displays. We want to welcome the new year with the loudest noise to ward off evil spirits, a superstition influenced by the Chinese.
Every year, SM Mall of Asia, the biggest mall in the Philippines holds a fireworks display at Central Park, By the Bay. Everyone can watch the show, and some can pay extra money to have proper seats and snacks, looking directly at the fireworks.
I had the chance to take some photos up close! π₯³ Here are some of my shots.
Everyone is on their phone taking the perfect video or picture, including me. π I know it defeats the purpose of spectating, but what can I do? π The brave lady in pink was standing on a concrete barrier walling the bay. It was kind of annoying for some people since she was on the way.
A combination of neon green and yellow. Why do fireworks only last for 10 seconds? Too beautiful to fade so fast.
I call this the three colossals. The burning red color is so vivid! π The flashy red gave the whole place seemingly a red tint. It expanded double the size until it burst into yellow flickers.
It was followed by thundering sparklers. π₯π
So big and intense! I was scared for a minute because it felt like it was just a few meters away from the spectators. π€©
Another brocade of starbursts! I like the pink end-tail. The color changed as it faded away. πππ»
Clusters of flickers and glitters. β¨ Fountain firecrackers were at the bottom (boat). It was lit up in a synchronized fashion creating a whistle sound. π
This group of fireworks reminds me of dandelion. The small white dots are like the soft, feathery, white hairs, while the yellow fountain firecrackers are the stems. Same as the dandelion, fireworks are short-lived.
The finale gave it all! π€© The simultaneous burst of fireworks from every direction lit up the whole Bay. I cannot hear anything except the explosive bangs and the cheering of the spectators. The crackling and booming sounds shook the ground. The finale lasted for five minutes and ultimately faded into the darkness.
Everyone was happy and clapping. We did not mind the aftersmoke smelling like gund powder, but at least our eyes and hearts were filled with beautiful lights. It was indeed a dazzling welcome for the new year.
