There's a lot of things going on around us and no one can predict what might happen later on. It's really hard to be taken by surprise especially if you're not prepared.
Last friday August 12,2022 after our dinner at 8 pm something happened here in our place which resulted to some light and serious damages. It was a sunny day that day and it was very calm so no one expect that something might happen at night. The rain was not that heavy and it lasted for just an hour.
We're feeding our pets that night when I saw a little portion of water coming from the outside of our house and I told it to my grandma. I thought that it was just a normal leak from the rain but I was wrong. We panicked because water won't stop flowing and it's only 1 minute when the water level was already on my waist.
It happened so fast that we didn't know what to save first but we prioritized life which is my cousins who's with us and our pets. After that I carried our stock of rice but sadly I only saved 2 cavans. The remaining 4 cavans were drowned in the water.
The water was so cold and we were shaking but we don't know if it's from nervousness or from the coldness of the night. Our hands are tied and my grandma was panicking. She's calling my name everytime one of our things inside will fall into the water but what can I do my body is only one with two hands.
My father was busy saving our tricycle because if it will be damage then it's a huge loss. My mother was in our other house saving the things she can save. Their place is higher than us but still the flood reached them.
People here that night were shouting and panicking because the water keeps on rising. It's just a matter of time when the bad news reached us. In that span of 5 minutes that we were busy saving the things we can save, the brother of my late grandpa forgot his bestfriend, his carabao.
His carabao was tied beside the river after they used it in the field that day. It struggled but it didn't break it's rope. Carabao can swim but it can't when the water was filled with a lot of debris such as woods, branches and mud. The water level beside the river that time was already above head. In my estimate it's 7 feet.
It resulted for his carabao to lose his life causing so much grief to it's owner. We heard his loud cry as if he was a baby but in a deep tone. It really pains us here because we forgot it also.
There's a bad news also in our side and that is about our newly planted rice. The flood drowned it in mud some of it were washed away. What really pains me is the fertilizers we applied that day. It was all gone and it's a huge loss already. If you didn't know fertilizers for rice now is expensive. One sack can cost upto 1,500 to 2,500 that's why it really hurts me to know that it was all gone.
It's already six days now after the sudden flood but we are still busy bringing back the original state of our surroundings. A lot of clothes were drowned in the muddy water and still we have a lot to wash by hand.
The flood was really unexpected because since the irrigation divided the river here, flood never came into our house so it's really a mystery what's the cause of it. Some are saying that the water reservoir up in the mountain didn't hold the large amount of water coming from the upper part. We are not sure about that but something is going on above there behind those mountain.
Still we are not hearing a concrete reason why a flood came rushing here causing huge damage to all of the residents living here in the lower part. We can accept if the rain was heavy but it's not so we're still waiting for concrete report from the officials in our barangay since they said that they will make a report out of it for some relief goods but as of the moment there's nothing, not even a single grain of rice.
It's difficult to face a sudden event such this but despite of that we are still thankful because we're still alive. This will be a long day again of cleaning and making our surrounding free from debris.
Keep safe to all. We may hear unexpected news about someone or something in our life causing us to cry but we have to stay strong no matter what.
Thank you for reading.
