The question about baptism is something we have to be cautious about because if it’s down with the wrong person, we run the risk of loosing our salvation. That shows that baptism is an essential ingredient for our salvation. Most people might choose to travel to the river Jordan, where our Lord was baptized just for sight seeing, most people who are privileged go there to be baptized but there is no rule that says you must be baptized there, you can do that in your local vicinity.
The question then arise, who is the right person to baptize us? Because that’s the challenge, you can’t get baptized in the wrong river, there is no such thing as wrong river. But you can get baptized by the wrong person. The criteria that qualifies someone to issue baptism can be found in Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,(A) baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,(B) 20 and teaching(C) them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you(D) always, to the very end of the age.

The instruction from the above verse is clearly stated. The one who has the capacity to baptize, is the one who can teach all the laws of God. We should be wary of falling into the wrong hands when choosing who to baptize us. We need to ask for God’s guidance because It’s His spirit that would lead and direct your path.
Here is what Peter has to say in Acts 2:38 concerning baptism: ‘And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’.
