I think it's hard to avoid abuse. People will always try to get an advantage where they can, and I agree that the autovotes can be easily abused. It's too bad, but some of those accounts just aren't around anymore. It sucks to see, but unless the system changes, I don't think anyone would want to touch this issue directly. I agree that curation is hard work.
