Many people associate romance with the days of knights in armor, of ladies in distress in some high tower, or fanciful and fantastic exaggerations of the era of King Arthur.
But is there no romance today? If there were no romance, how would you and I be able to exist in such a hustle-bustle as goes on about us every day?
The reason we often believe these romantic surroundings essential to the spirit or romance is because they are conducive to dreaming, planning, constructive and positive thinking, living the dreams we have suppressed. But, the truth is, we must romance before we can love. We need not always fall in love with some tall, dark, and handsome Prince Charming - No! We may fall in love with life itself, with our work, with the career of a man who is far from handsome - but - until we romance, dream, plan and actually see the dew upon the rise of Life, we are without the spirit of romance.
You may say that you do not wish to become sentimental and mushy. Are sentimentally and mushiness even akin to romance? I believe the difference between sentimentality and romance is this: sentimentality is living with the past; romance is living with the future. There is a vast difference. The past is forever gone, the future is forever approaching. It is pliable in the hands of one who knows what she wants, and has faith in her ability to shape it.
Unfortunate, beyond estimate, is the woman in whose heart the luminous torchlight of romance has been permitted to die, for that woman must kindle anew this God-given force of personal charm or be deprived forever of her greatness source of attraction.
Circumstances connected with one’s obligations to other may sometimes result in suppression of the spirit of romance, but there never can be adequate justification for any form of neglect of this beautiful emotion which permits it to wither and atrophy through disuse m. There is always the possibility of transmutation of the emotion of romance into some work of art, some form of constructive service that will keep it eternally burning.
Until you are able to romance, to dream, to plan and have faith in your dreams you are entirely without the magnetic charm which is the quality that makes an otherwise prosaic and uninteresting women into a fascinating woman who stands out from the crowd.
If it is true that a woman may “make” or “break” a man, it is true because of woman’s mystic power in the spirit of romance with which she may lift a man high, or drive him down to the depths of despair.
