In days gone by, when times were simpler,
Our innocence was just that.
Our porch was a place to gather, to sit and chatter,
And think about where we were at.
Then life occurred, and we grew:
“Who told you you were naked?”
When our eyes were opened, we knew.
There was no going back, tho sacred.
Age now bears us down, grief and guilt accrued,
Leaving us to endure the pain.
Hoping tomorrow we'll be renewed,
Like a summer day cured by rain.
Alas, why to I maunder on so?
'Tis the thing that old men do.
So keep on enduring, and you
Will grow old too.
