Igorot from the root word "golot' which means mountain. Igorot (Mountaineer) is an ethnic groups in the mountains of northern Luzon Philippines.They are divided in 2 subgroups.Larger groups lives in the south,central and western areas and very adapt at rice terrace farming.The smaller group lives in the east and north.They are further divided to 5 ethnolinguistic groups: The Bantoc, Ibaloi, Isnag, Kalinga and the Kankanaey.
The Igorot culture is one the most distinct tribes in the Philippines.They came from Cordillera Mountains and of the popular tribe that tourists would love to see and experience.
For men wear costume is long strips of handwoven loin cloth called "wanes" or "Bahag" a long woven material about 10-15 inches wide and 3 to 5 feet long.Main purpose to cover Man's private parts.It's firmly secured at the waist to prevent the clothing from falling off to ensure that it covers the male organs safely and properly. Traditionally no upper clothing for male only tattoos,indicate as the male's authority in the village.
For females costume consists of rectangular woven clothing about 3 to 5 feet wide and 3to 4 feet long.It simply worn as a skirt and secured around the waist called "lufid".In the older times there were
also no upper clothing for women,but on modern era it was influenced the new generation and earth color blouses are now worn.
