How to get out of a POW camp

This is based on a true story to a degree, a lot more truth in this movie than some other movies "based on a true story". In either case it is still an excellent film, and definitely worth watching.

Escape proof is probably something like un-hack-able, nothing exists that cannot be broken, all it takes is time and persistence. If you were in a POW camp with plenty of time and had escaped from other camps then wouldn't you at least try? I might, but until you are in such a situation who can really say?

Here we have a group of allied POW's, many of which have escaped from other camps ,and hence are sent to this one, an "escape proof" camp. But surprise, they decide that not just a handful should escape but rather a few hundred.

This is something that will take a lot of time, planning, and also some luck. The film is basically broken into two half's, the first half is about the planning, and outsmarting the German guards while they are building their tunnels. The second half is around what happens after they manage to escape and how some of them use boats, trains and planes to get to freedom.

Unfortunately most are captured after the escape, and the majority are shot for being spies, or while "trying" to escape the soldiers that caught them. Basically an inhuman act for showing up the German command. Their deaths mark a sad spot in history.

If only to get an insight into a part of the war this film should be seen by anyone that had grandparent alive during that time. It is none the less and excellent movie, and ALL the cast give excellent performances.
