Coming of Age
One of River Phoenix's early films, this was release in the mid 80's amongst a number of movies about coming of age. Or maybe I just remember more of them because I was a similar age and wanted to go on adventures too.
Here we have four boys who are starting on the journey of growing up and leaving their child selves behind. We are taken on a journey over a long weekend when they hear about another local boy that has gone missing.
The four decide to find the body, during the weekend and their search of the local areas they boys learn valuable life lessons. They learn about themselves, each other, what friendship means and what it means to stand up for your own beliefs and values.
Unlike a lot of newer movies that are about coming of age, this doesn't have a lot of special effects or CGI. Instead it relies on the story and the telling of the story through the characters experiences. While not a must see, it is worthwhile to see.
