Issam and his sister Busiwa where recently granted sports passports to compete for Suriname, the home country of their father Tommy Asinga, who represented Suriname during the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics. Their mother, Ngozi Mwanamwambwa, is also a former 2time Olympian (Zambia)
