Last time, I took apart the Kommonium-Z Z-crystal and was going to use it as a base for my Porium-Z. Recently, I tried dyeing it using Rit Dye More Synthetic, boiling water, and some vinegar. I left the pieces in for ababout helf an hour to an hour. These were the results.
To the far left and right are the pieces before they were dyed.
And here are the pieces after being dyed. Sadly they didn't adhere much. I think I influenced the color a little bit, but it's still mostly yellow.
I've looked up countless tutorials. And I believe I have a couple more options left. According to some, acetone can be good for opening up the pours and letting the dye get deep within the plastic. However, it can also eat up and warp plastic if left in there too long or by adding too much. Though, I hear not all plastics can be dyed easily. A big problem for me is that I have NO idea what plastic the Z-crystals are made of!
Another thing I've heard is that idye poly works much better than rit. I checked my local Jo ann fabrics, but they didn't have any pink dye in stock.:( The only other place that has them is Dick Blicks, and the only store I know near me is quite a ways out, and shipping is pretty expensive.
One more idea I had is that I have an orange Solganium-Z, and I'm wondering if that would turn a better pink. I also have a purple Lunalium-Z, but that's a bit too dark of a color for what I'm dyeing.
If any of you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate some help! I don't want to keep spending money on things that don't work. Spreading the word via resteems would help, too.(not that I'm asking you to do so, it's your choice)
