Correction: I don't know why I said that Gold mining is an exception to the normal direction of price setting, because as I state is "Gold does not derive its value from the desirability of the shovel that digs it. " it's exactly in accordance with the normal imputation of value. However, it does act as a damper, or relief valve to excess demand for gold, by bringing more metal to market, thus softening the volatility of general prices, a mechanism Bitcoin doesn't have.
