A little over a year ago (summer 2016) I tried writing my first dubstep song after about 3 months of messing around with Ableton. If I learned anything, its that LFO (low frequency oscillation - basically you superimpose a note or sound on top of a low frequency sine wave) automation is the foundation to the poster dubstep sound. I honestly don't listen to much dubstep, edm, or electronic music that much if at all. The only real influences I had where along the lines of Skrillex, Dr P, Flux Pavilion, and Modestep.
Anyway, here was my attempt at some LFO and mixing a compressed industrial type beat. Probably wont try anything like this again, I'm more into hip-hop.
Also, this was around the time when Rick & Morty was just becoming popular, hence the samples haha. (I do have to add that this was before everyone hopped on season 3 band wagon, sorry for being hipster but I was an original fan)
