It’s January 15th and so it’s time to announce the game I’ll be covering in the first Spotlight article.

Exilium by Greg Saunders

Honestly, this is the game that first got me thinking about the Spotlights project back when I looked at the earlier edition, then called “In Flames.” Exilium is in many ways a textbook on how we can unfairly dismiss a game based on a lot of misguided, dogmatic criticism certain subcultures of the RPG hobby have built up over the last twenty or so years. I’ll be calling these out explicitly in my article.

When I post my Exilium article, at the end of January, I will also announce the next game I plan to cover and I will post that article just before President’s Day Weekend in February. This is because I’d much rather post my articles in the middle of the month rather than the end. So, going forward that will be the pattern. At the time of publication of an article I will announce what the following article will cover and the articles will be published in the middle of the month.

In the first week of February I will contact the Players and Game Masters to submit their first round of photos for the fake game contest. I will stop taking submissions February 19th and I will post the photo essay around the 22nd. I will accept name entries for about a week and then I will announce the winner around March 1st.

Thanks again to those of you supporting this project on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/jburneko). It means a lot to me.
