Since most of the Antarctic is covered in ice, there are very few land animals. But the oceans are rich in fish,squid and krill, providing plenty of food for other sea creatures. In the Antarctic Ocean region there are:
• fish that produce a natural kind of anti-freeze to protect themselves from the extremely cold temperatures underwater.
• Blue whales, the world's biggest heaviest living creatures. They can grow up to 30 meters long. They feed through baleen plates.
• seven different types of Antarctic seal. They swim under the ice and saw through it with their teeth to make breathing holes that go up to the surface.
• very few inland animals. They only ones are flies,mites, live, fleas and tiny microbes. Mites are the most southerly living animals on Earth.
