I came across this movie on Facebook, saw an ad for it and watched the trailer right there. Something about three old men planning a bank heist caught my attention immediately, so I decided to watch the full thing. Downloaded it from MovieBox.
It starts with three lifelong friends, Joe, Willie, and Albert, just trying to get through retirement, until their pensions get wiped out by the very bank they trusted. Joe's about to lose his home, Willie's dealing with a serious health scare while missing his family, and Albert's mostly just terrified of being left alone.
The scene that really caught my attention is when Joe happens to witness an actual bank robbery while he's there dealing with his own eviction notice. You can practically see the idea click in his head right there, and that's the moment the whole plan is born.
Before they get anywhere close to pulling off a real heist, they try practicing by shoplifting from a grocery store, and it's an absolute disaster. Watching three grown men fumble through something so simple is genuinely funny, and it makes them feel real.
So they turn to a guy named Jesus, a pet store owner with actual criminal know-how, to train them properly. While he's teaching them the ropes, he drops this line that just stays with you: it's a culture's duty to take care of its elderly.
Then comes the heist itself, messy, tense, full of close calls, which makes it more satisfying when they pull it off.
What really got me is near the end, an FBI agent corners Joe at a café right as he's picking up a puppy from Jesus, with the stolen money hidden inside. Earlier, Jesus had coached them with the line, show the person with the worst eyes an image he can't forget. So when the agent finally says, so you were the one at the bank, Joe just plays it cool with the puppy on his lap, and you realize the whole plan worked exactly the way Jesus trained them.
By the end, the trio walks away with their dignity restored, and it's the kind of ending that leaves you smiling. If you want something funny with real heart behind it, this one's worth the watch
