The (not so) insignificant wave...

Yesterday morning I headed out on my morning walk as usual. My strides took me down toward the lagoon as they usually do and there was nothing specifically different about the morning in general – other than it’s “every day” unique magnificence. Out here in country bumpkin land it is pretty common practice to greet the people which pass you – be it with a simple “good morning” to those on foot, or a quick wave to those driving past. Perhaps it seems to make mention of this practice, but it is not at ALL a thing in the city – in fact it is completely unheard of… unless you actually know the person. It is one of the little details which I love about this place – one of it’s little gems.

So, having people greet me along the way is not out of the ordinary but as I began walking the stretch along the riverside, a couple pulled out of their driveway and eventually passed me – as they did, I looked in their direction to extend a wave and the wife who was sitting in the passenger seat, practically climbed over her husband driving in order to wave at me. She had the hugest smile on her face and exuded pure warmth and welcome. It was as if I was a long lost friend which she was seeing again for the first time in many years.

It was impossible not to feel her love and enthusiasm directed toward me – for whatever reason and the involuntary smile which beamed on my face was probably the largest I have had for a while. It was such a brilliant moment! It made me feel SO good from the inside out and I had NO idea who she was!

A little further down the way – probably about opposite to where they pulled out, I stopped to take a pic of the lagoon view. There is a whatsapp group for the village and I often share some of my morning snaps with everyone on there… so I decided to take that one for her, share it on the group and let her know that her simple but very beautiful gesture had absolutely made my morning. I did that a little later in the morning and got quite a lot of lovely feedback from other residents, but unfortunately not from her – I am not sure if she is on the whatsapp group.

Why am I telling you this? Well, because this is my blog and the place in which I choose to share – but also to remind you that life really is about the little things and those seemingly insignificant actions and moments can in fact have massively positive impact, whether we get to see the result of that or not and that alone should be motivation enough for you to continue spreading your kindness like confetti!
