I was never much of a beach girl - sand irritates me and I also have a looming respect – aka fear of the ocean and its power. I am also not clear on the logic of lying on a patch of sand all day to roast yourself, especially when natural outdoor activities would take care of that for you whilst you actually achieve something for the hours spoken, but hey – each to their own! However - I DO enjoy being surrounded by any and all nature… so a little sand between the toes is a small price to pay for the magnificence and benefit of a meditative stroll alongside rolling waves. Not unlike most things in life– the really good stuff requires a bit of sacrifice and compromise.
The ocean has a way of inviting you in”, entices you to get lost in its rolling repetition whilst you gaze at a seemingly endless horizon. It really does go on forever – filled with possibility and opportunity. It is a lot like a blank canvas really, just waiting to be filled with passion and enthusiasm – like it would shape and adapt itself to whatever dream or desire you had.
As some of you may have already read, I went camping last week. It became a standard joke over that period at how much wood I “wasted”, simply because I wanted to sit in front of a fire, by myself - for no other reason than sitting in front of a fire, staring at it – contemplating life and absorbing the moment. I guess I just like to engross myself with life in slow motion every so often and a camp fire in the middle of nowhere would always strike me as a good moment to do that.
These moments… the ones surrounded by solitude and captivation are one of life’s greatest teachers – if we are receptive enough to actually listen and learn. It invokes a gentle confidence, raises your authentic self, affords your soul a voice and gives your heart the opportunity to beat for true purpose. These moments are nothing short of precious, the wisdoms and insights attained should never be disregarded. The only thing in life which is consistent is change. Every waking hour of my life, I think about the changes I would be happy to see coming into fruition. They have become my fuel.
