I am not saying I set out a specific set of colours for each day of the week, but I definitely do find that certain moods unconsciously attract me to certain colours, but there is only really one day in the week which I seem to have attached a “colour stigma” to and that is a Sunday. To me, Sunday’s are generally very soulful days for me. Not that other days aren’t, it is just Sundays hold a special magic and I suppose it is for those reasons that I tend to gravitate to lighter colours…. And yes, right down to the underwear aspects of it, haha! If I wear denim it will be a light denim and the top will generally be white, light or fresh florals. For whatever reason, it just naturally sets the tone for my mood and day ahead.
The vibrational influence of colour is no secret to most and I personally believe is a very real thing indeed. This was tested in my own right many years ago when I attended a psychic development course for a year. On one particular occasion each of us students was seated at a table and blindfolded - a bunch of colour pieces of card were placed in front of us on the table one by one and we were asked to pick out a specific colour each time. No, I did not get them all right – but I did find red particularly easy as well as green and blue which are both colours which have forever resonated with me.
The impact of colour holds enormous weight in our lives – way beyond the wardrobe. Décor is probably one of the most influential and is “played upon” in industry the world over to “create” a specific mood or vibe in any given space. Restaurants, clubs and pretty much most commercial venues use the power of colour incredibly wisely. I actually think about this quite often in respects to my own home. I entertain fairly regularly, not only because I love the social aspect of it – but also because I love cooking for other people as many of you already know, and I am quite often complimented on the “feel good” and “positive” energy my home holds.
I have often found this quite curious and a little amusing because I have no specific “style” or colour theme ANYWHERE in my home, lol! Every SINGLE room in my house is filled with many, many different colours and styles and yet it works – well, I like it haha! I mean I literally have a curtain in my lounge which is made up from SCARVES haha! I suppose my conglomeration of “many” has become a style of it’s own. Perhaps it is the rainbow array of colours combined together that make people feel “good”, or maybe it is the combination of that and the other little things which I pay attention to like background music, light, plants and INCREDIBLY OCD cleanliness and order HAHA! Whatever it is, it appears to be enjoyable to my friends and guests.
I can remember being a teen and driving down the main road with my mom. There was a regular vendor that sold their home made apparel among many others and one of the items which they regularly hung on the side of their craft stand was a huge tie-dye sheet which literally had every colour on the rainbow on it. I will never forget the repeated attraction I felt toward it. It literally made my soul swirl! Ironically, I never actually visited that stand – but perhaps I just have a natural attraction to a “multi-colour” lifestyle – or perhaps it is just a Gemini problem, hehe!
The psychology of colour is a fascinating topic really – one which I really enjoy! Do you find yourself influenced by colour in your life? Does it steer your wardrobe choices on a daily basis? Do you associate certain colours with particular days of the week, or is it just a “whatever” kind of thing. Do you find that particular colours insight specific moods and mind-sets within you? Are there any particular colours which you feel you resonate strongly with and do those feature prominently in your life and home?
