This is my entry for the theme of the week, Frost-Icy.
I shared a few of these images in a post last weekend about the luminary festival I attended with friends, along with people pictures and so on. The festival takes place on a frozen lake in Minneapolis each year. In this post I'm sharing a larger collection of the luminaries, all made with ice!
It's a beautiful winter festival. There are daytime activities too, but we always go at night to see the luminaries, which create a thrilling winter wonderland that makes one think of faeries and magic. They line the entire lake (which is huge), all lit with candles. And there are special areas you can visit at points across the lake, like this one that has a promenade lined with hanging lantern luminaries.
They are really pretty close up, too. I took several different pictures, some with blurred backgrounds, to highlight and intensify the glow of the focus luminary.
Here is a picture of one of the luminaries that are placed all along the perimeter of the lake.
And here is one of the features. I assume it is meant to convey a sailboat. Be sure to look far across the lake. You can see the many luminaries placed along the edge of the lake.
And another feature — a pyramid of ice luminaries!
I know the spirit of this challenge is about natural ice formations, but I searched my camera and could not find any worth sharing, so I hope this qualifies. Thanks to
