That is my thought too, @katrina-ariel. Why don't challenging times seem to bring people together? We are very divided. As you say the instant nature of self-expression is a big part of it. But also there's the fact that "news" is no longer unbiased and everyone can choose the flavor of reality they prefer. And some media outlets have discovered that fanning the flames of outrage is great for ratings. So why tell the truth when you can have incensed followers hanging on your every word instead?
