How wonderful that you get to go back to what you really love to do. I'm so happy for you, bluefinstudios@bluefinstudios. What a coming home feeling after so long away from your peeps! (And I do love that Jackson Browne song.)

I absolutely totally get what you're talking about with regard to the thrill of being behind the scenes, and it made me realize something I have never ever understood about myself.

As a backdrop, I grew up in the theater. My father was a professor of theater, on the tech side. He was a master of illusion. His sets were divine. He taught students how to design them, build them, and make them movable so that a lovely sitting room would give way to a stone veranda on a moonlight night. And when it was showtime, you didn't see a set. You saw that sitting room, with a convincing brick fireplace and realistic fire. You saw the veranda with ionic columns and real moonlight. He also ran a youth theater, which gave me an opportunity to be on stage as well as a stage hand.

Well... I didn't stay in the theater. My calling was writing and content strategy. But I live by the same principles. If someone struggles over a sentence or a written idea, I have failed. If the words are not cohesive, if the reader is thinking about the words instead of feeling something, then I have not succeeded in creating the experience I wanted for the reader — whether it's a piece of fiction, a blog post on walking in nature, or a technical article.

Damn. Mind blown!

p.s. Most people wouldn't notice the relevance of the use of "backdrop," but I bet you did!
