Oh wow... I don't even know what to say anymore about your singing voice... just very very professional.
My understanding is that I also have some Scottish and Irish ancestry if we look far back enough, escaping from various potato blights to come over to South Africa even as far back as the 1850s. I think we even found a few diary entries from those ones, and how sad it was for the lady and her children to leave behind old grandfather, knowing that they would never see him again (Not an easy trip to just return from on a quick holiday in those days!!)...
I think we even celebrate "Robbie Burns night" and especially St Patrick's Day here! The farming town where my wife's mother's family comes from has a tradition called the "MacNab" which involves a competition where professional hunters try to hunt an antelope and a local kind of pheasant, as well as catch a fish... I think traditional music is played in the evenings and a lot of whiskey is consumed.
Quite a lot of South African musicians seem to enjoy the Irish and Scottish traditional songs, or even form bands specifically around that! I think my grandfather on my father's side, who's own grandfather might have actually been Irish, used to play a lot of traditional Irish folk music on various instruments. Unfortunately he passed away when I was very young, but I seem to be getting there in the end!
