Ah, to make it even worse my main career is as a Renewable Energy Project Developer, but for some reasons (I should dedicate a separate post about) - 2022's major Government tender was mostly cancelled... so I think South Africa is going to have loadshedding where electricity demand exceeds supply for many years to come...
Loadshedding depends on how much demand exceeds supply. Stage 1 loadshedding is when demand exceeds supply by about 1GW, and they may turn off your suburb for a two and a half hour slot in a day, with 06:00-08:30, 18:00-20:30 and 20:00-22:30 being the most annoying options. Recently we have been up to Stage 4 or even Stage 6, where you may get 3 to 4 of these power-cuts per day. In stage 6, we were even getting two of them in a row, or about 4.5 hours off at a time...
There are other countries in Africa where it can be much worse, particularly our neighbour Zimbabwe, which had an economic crash that rivals Venezuela. There you will be lucky to get 5 hours of electricity in the middle of the night, so people who can afford it need to install their own home-scale solar systems, which of course is getting popular with people who can afford it here.
Cape Town in South Africa has recently been given permission to pursue its own separate electricity projects to make things better for its own citizens... they are one of very few Municipalities in good financial standing where a bank would support them in this... We already have a pumped storage scheme which usually makes us have one less Stage of power cuts than the rest of the country... this coastal village I was visiting is nowhere near that grid though!
@ablaze, I don't think I've ever had a cover request from you? Don't I owe you one after all you have done in providing this platform and even letting me win a few times? Please go to this post and make a cover song request for me to try and sing/play for you? If I choose it, you will get 50% of that post reward in HP!
Give it a try! @jasperdick/bviejehh
