I've been trying out some streaming and recording using my current setup. I've had a few problems with OBS and thought I would check around to see what else is being used. I stumbled on a few videos of a product called vMix.
I created a video recording of the whole test. I'm sold in terms of the recording and options available. Obviously, I'm comparing a free, open source application to a paid-for product. vMix does have a free version that may or may not suit your needs. That's for you to decide.
The first part of the video I was using OBS to capture the recording. (Good grief! I look like a zombie!) Midway through you can see a noticeable difference in the video quality. That's with the same setup.
VMix list of features:
- All inputs in one place
- Simultaneous Streaming, Recording, and Output
- 13 Transition Effects
- Bang for your buck on a modest PC
- HD Virtual Sets with high-quality real-time Chroma Key
- PC and Mac Desktop Sources
- vMix Call: Add up to 8 remote guests quickly and easily
- Built-In Title Templates
- Video Delay / Instant Replay
- Web Browser Input
- Built-In Audio Mixer
- Live Video Effects
- Multi-view
- Full NDI Capabilities
- 4 Overlay Channels
- Touch Screen Web Interface
For me, I think the value is there. I'm going to play with it for the 60-day free trial and see what else I can do with it. I'll give it a go with the Live streaming later.
That's what I think, what about you?
