(well, I mean to say writer this time…)

Writing can be a real struggle if you allow it to be. I put an immense amount of pressure on myself recently by choosing to go the independent freelancer route. So spare a thought for the starving artist over here. If you're in a similar state then I feel for you too.

But you know what? I'm optimistic because I have belief in my capabilities and when in doubt, I zoom out. Well by zoom out, I mean look back.

Take a look for yourself at the list of articles you've posted and all the encouraging feedback you've received along the way. Now give yourself a pat on the back, dear writer.

Enough with the rambling, Jase. We're here to learn about AI.

Beautiful isn't he?

Rusty (aka TheRandomRewarder) is an AI bot that lurks the webpages of the Read.cash writing platform. In his own words he's a Deep Learning Convolutional Neural Network. He is programmed to read each and every article that gets posted there. There's something else you should know about Rusty though… he has access to cryptocurrency!

If you write something that sparks his interest, he will pay you. It's as simple as that.

It all sounds too good to be true, right?

The hardest of forks

A quick word about crypto first, as I presume not everyone in my reading list is up to date on this new and complex technology. I'll try to give you the elevator pitch. Here we go:

Imagine a form of money that is digital yet cannot be copied.
Through a strict implementation of computer code, it has a fixed monetary supply of (virtual) coins.
Advanced cryptography permits users to maintain ownership of their wealth simply by keeping a copy of their cryptographic key private.
This private key is required to make transactions, similar to how you permit a bank transfer with your secret pin code.
That money was first announced in 2008 and was called Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.

Bitcoin quickly gained popularity and came to a pivotal moment in 2017 when the crypto community split in half, essentially "hard forking" the software off into 2 variants:

the original Bitcoin (ticker $BTC, the orange B)
and the newer Bitcoin Cash (ticker $BCH, the green B).

Both currencies exist to this date but over time have grown apart and developed different use cases and communities.

OK. I hope that relatively short intro has helped set the scene for what's coming next.

So I mentioned my friend Rusty already. Rusty is a diehard BCH fan (the green coin). If you write an article on Read.cash and he likes it, he'll likely tip you some of his BCH. Don't ask me where he got it from…

How do I receive Rusty's BCH?

Easy. By signing up for a free account at Read.cash, you are immediately provided with your own digital wallet along with the secret passphrase to claim ownership of the wallet. Signing up is free and open to anyone and everyone. TIP: Take some private time with no distractions when you first set up your account!

Will he pay for my non-crypto content?

Yes. I've seen writers talk about all sorts of topics and a large portion of them manage to trigger his interest. Users can also tip your work with their own crypto so I recommend posting in a community of like minded authors and engaging with them too.

What can you do with the crypto?

Once you receive the crypto, the choice is entirely up to you. Merchants all over the world are popping up these days with the sign "Bitcoin Cash accepted here" so you could treat your mum to a cup of coffee with the proceeds from your blogging. Most people I know are holding on to the coins in anticipation of future price appreciation. However, if you're strapped for cash and need the money straight away then you could also send the crypto to an exchange and transfer them to their relevant fiat value (i.e. Dollars, Euros, etc.).

Unfortunately I cannot give you financial advice. I can however tell you that we are in a very poor macroeconomic environment at the moment and that risky assets such as crypto (but also tech stocks, securities, etc.) have taken a heavy beating over the last few months. I believe that the economy will eventually pick up again and select investments made during these downtimes could pay off nicely further down the line. Whether you believe BCH will rise or fall is entirely up to you and I recommend that you do your own research before making important financial decisions.

A picture paints a thousand words so I guess I'll take a break from writing now and just let these Read.cash screenshots speak for themselves. Do take into account that the Dollar values you see below are simply the USD value of the crypto tip at the moment it was handed out. As BCH is a volatile asset, the true value of the asset can fluctuate 24/7. For example, a BCH tip worth $10 today could be worth $100 in the future if the value of BCH increases by 10x (just a hypothetical example, don't quote me on that!).

Besides Rusty, users can also tip. These are the writers who contributed the most to the growth of other authors on the platform.

There are plenty of writing communities to chose from, these are just a handful of the most active ones today.

Wrapping things up

So I think it's clear to see that Read.cash offers quite an interesting earning opportunity for those who create regular content online. Granted, this site alone will not pay for your college tuition but as they don't have any exclusivity clauses, you are free to cross-post your own original content from other sites and earn in parallel.
