I just got my first author reward on HIVE and decided, for my own curiosity, to do some analysis of the rewards. So basically you get to follow along as i do some math. Maybe it'll be interesting... maybe not.

This post is not an explanation post or here to answer simple questions. Don't read this if you don't understand basics of rewards or why rewards happen

ANALYSIS

TEST 1 - hiveblocks

A. We assume HBD = $1usd
B. We use hiveblocks hive value = $0.27

4.198 * $1 = $4.198
15.727 * .27 = $4.246
= $8.444 COMPARE 8.396HR for Author (OFF BY 0.57%)

TEST 2 - COINGECKO

4.198 * .7372 = $3.094
15.727 * .3136 = $4.932
= $8.025 COMPARE 8.396HR for Author (OFF BY 4.4%)

TEST 3 - BITTREX

4.198 * .736 = $3.0897
15.727 * .3249 = $5.109
= $8.198 COMAPRE 8.396HR for author (OFF BY 2.35%)

JUST THE FIRST TEST

It isn't enough to just test this one time and be ok with .5% to 4.4% discrepency... we would need to check this again when values have changed a bunch. Likely the most important is to see when HBD value changes a lot either up or down.

If you tell the user the exact formula or let them choose a change to the formula for example so they can decide which source they trust. Or there is a decent consensus on what source is most trusted then this is a good start. Right now there is just a lot of unknowns where people have no clue where that number we show is coming from.

Obviously my formulas are all off... I don't have the correct sources and I don't know which ones I should be using. If you do I'll use that in my next trial.

PEAKD DOLLAR SIGN?

It is my position that if the interface can consistently represent a USD value even with price fluctuations of the HBD. Then we should turn the $ symbol back on perhaps.
My additional argument is that we should show the AUTHOR amount instead of the combined amount and use the Tooltip box to show more info.

In the best scenario the API just shows the expected tokens they are likely to earn... then we can do calculations ourselves.
