GOD DOES NOT GIVE UP
In Genesis 17:17, the Lord appeared to Abraham to reiterate to him a promise He had earlier made unto him. As far as Abraham was concerned, it was a closed chapter. He was ready to make do with Ishmael, who came as a result of an alternative arrangement to God’s promise as was masterminded by Sarah his wife. God is never moved by what we are able to arrange for ourselves at the end of the expense of whatever He has performed to give to us. He is not moved, because He knows He is able to perform as He has promised. Faithful is He Who has promised, Who will also do it. Abraham laughed in dismay, as God sought to reiterate the promise He once gave to them. It was a very indirect way of telling God to forget the matter and the “sleeping dogs lie”.
God does not give up on His plans and purposes for our lives. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but not an iota of His Word shall pass without fulfillment. God is committed to His Word. He has promised to honor His Word far above His name. God did not need to argue with Abraham about what he tried to portray by his laughter. As far as God was concerned, He knew that another dimension of laughter was going to spring forth, as He brings His promise to pass concerning them. It doesn’t matter what men have called you as a result of any negative downturn in your life. Opinions change and every negative opinion men have concerning you shall change as a result of the victory the Lord brings.
“This laughter must continue” was the stand God took as Abraham sought to counter the emphasis God was putting on the promise He had earlier on given to him. True to it; the Bible says in Genesis 21:1, that “The Lord visited Sarah as He had spoken” “And Sarah said, God hath made me laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me” Genesis 21:6. The laughter continued, but this time, it was the voice of rejoicing and not the voice of dejection. God is still God, He has not changed. Your despair will be divinely repaired and you shall rejoice.
