It was a Saturday with two purposes:

1- To find rings for our wedding 馃拲
2- To pick up a package that was being sent to my husband from Spain. 馃摝

But... it turned into much more!馃榿馃浀

How it all started...

The initial idea with which we left on our scooter, was to get to Old Havana, to go to a store of a jewelry artist, who works with titanium to have our wedding rings made, or if there were for our finger sizes, to buy them directly.

We have been living together for more than a decade, but we did not dedicate ourselves, because that is the word, to carry out the necessary procedures to legalize our relationship, because my partner, being divorced, required a previous document, which is cumbersome to get because of the long lines that are formed in the civil registries.
We finally obtained it and set our marriage date, which obviously has us very excited, now that we are very close to the day.

The date we selected is April 28 ...and yes, it's basically in two weeks! You might think we're crazy, that weddings take months of preparation, but we're not really interested in that right now. We just want to get married!

So without further ado, we went to look for our rings at the store of the Artist Jorge Gil in Old Havana.

I should tell you in case you haven't been to Cuba, that Old Havana is a really small area geographically less than 5 km2, and one of its limits is the Bay of Havana. But, part of the magic of this territory, and what makes it so special, is that it contains the Historical Center of the city. Centuries-old constructions and modern buildings converge here. This is the reason why it is one of the most touristic areas of the country and where some of the main commercial centers of the country are located.

Within the area we will also find buildings in poor condition and even in danger of collapse, due to lack of maintenance among many other things.

Walking through its cobblestone streets can become an incredible experience, even if, like me, you have done it so many times, but apparently there are still places that I did not see before.

That these things happen surprises me a lot, so we found for example a tile attached to a building (The Academy of Sciences), which indicates the presence of Albert Einstein in Havana. We tried to enter but the guard at the door did not know if she could let us access the place because it was her first day of work and she was alone. We did not want to bother her and agreed to come back another time.

When we arrived at the jewelry store, it was closed. A person who was there told us that they had not been open for a few days and only attended by phone for the moment. But nearby there was another store where they also sold their products and we went there.

In the place they told us there was a size for my "fianc茅's" ring, but my fingers are almost the size of a little girl's, so there were none for me. However, we saw some 925 Silver wedding rings that I really liked and we bought those as Plan B, in case we can't find the artist to see if we can do it by ourselves. But I tell you here in secret, that my Plan B is going to be my Plan A only that my fianc茅 doesn't know it yet.

The reason is that I want to buy the titanium ones...later but to celebrate our first decade together. But it's a secret! SHHHH!!!馃槒

Seeing that the first part of our day was not exactly as we wanted it to be, but we were very excited about our silver wedding rings, we decided to keep walking through the streets of old Havana.
My partner is an architect, and well, I have taken an interest in this art and I find myself combining my passion for photography with architecture.

These buildings are some of the structures you will find in this area of Havana city.

plaza de las palomas.jpg

This square is known as "La plaza de las palomas" (The square of the pigeons), its real name is San Francisco de Asis Square. Because of the strong sun, most of the birds were perched on shady buildings instead of in the middle of the square where they are usually found, which is the reason for the popular name of the place.

While we're on the subject of jewelry, I should mention that we found a phenomenal museum that day! A beautiful jewel! I knew it was there, and it was quite recent, compared to the rest of the museums we found in the city, but whenever I passed by it was always closed.
This day, no doubt the universe wanted to reward us a little bit, so we were finally able to get in!

It is true that Havana is full of old cars in operation, but ... this was something else! I leave here several images so you can see what beauties on wheels!

That's me, up there, choosing which one I want to take home, Osvie says he'll take the Maserratti 馃槒.

The person who was supposed to give us the package from Spain (remember there were two main objectives?!) would not be home until after 5 pm.
We were fine, so we continued our walk through the streets of Havana.

Then we wanted to get closer to our destination and with our scooter we moved again to the Vedado area, probably the other one just as crowded, if not more.

We stopped for a moment to call the person, but he had not yet arrived home because he was in a work meeting.

Since there was still a bit of a wait, we went to sit in a park on Avenida de los Presidentes, known porpularly as Calle G. We watched some videos and talked for a while about possible honeymoon destinations.

As the afternoon wore on while we were there, sitting in the shade of a tree as we did so many times when we were just acquaintances who made the leap from the digital world to real life.

The person who had the package called us very sorry, that it was going to take much longer/ So we decided to go back to the house because the bike does not have good front lighting.

That's how it ends?!...Nooo it doesn't!馃榿

So by way of conclusion we could say that of the two purposes on the day,
one was half solved and the other was not.
However, we were very pleased with the trip. We did not feel at any time that we had not achieved anything, because it did not feel that way.
We discovered new places, others not so new, and we took some time for ourselves, to break away from the rhythm that work life imposes. This is very important when you have been with someone for a long time because it is very easy to get stuck in a routine.

So this weekend experience was more than satisfying!

PS: On Monday we were able to get the package...what it brought: A pair of Rollerblade linear skates for Osviel, who is now a skater, or so he says 馃槣!!!
