The rainy season has began.
A heavier rain to most of us in the tropics but on the other hand does frogs really sing? Do they love water too much? Or do they enjoyed the rain?
These loud deep croak had us thinking of large frogs/toad singing their hearts' out--but I realized I was wrong.
The enormous deep voices of the night came from tiny frogs that we happen to see on our walk one night.
I was so shocked to discover that the source of the noise was from the tiniest type of frog I've seen in our village, and a tiny creature indeed, three inches long was the largest from head to foot.
A tiny bullfrog (I forgot its' name) since the male frog is usually smaller than the females and their croak the loudest.
When there is more water the more they'll sing or the more rain the more they'll sing their mating call.
As water drain faster in fewer rains, they will know that tadpoles won't survive if there won't be water in the long run so they will wait for continuous rainfall before trying to find a mate.
The longer the rains the more the frogs reproduce in such a way that as super typhoons are becoming normal we are alerted by the frogs of which type of rain it will be--if it is a continuous rain the frogs will croak, if it is just a passing rain the frogs are silent.
Last year I noticed that frogs had been singing for the entire week only to find out some of the places of our town has been erased by landslide.
A week is too long for frogs to cry because it should only last 2-3 days at most.
The heavy continuous rain lasted for 4 days last year which became so severe for our river rich town.
Our town is sub-divided by rivers yet for most people evacuating to school buildings is the best option and staying there till the river waters drop to normal is the best idea.
But in this one community, the people came back and most of them went down with the mud, there is even one place who was gotten down on the night of super typhoon.
Sorry that I've had to mention this, but the rains had become intense this year too--and frogs?
They continued to sing as the country now faced the rainy season again.
I do hope that in this year we'll have a Christmas full of lights because last year, the entire town is engulfed in darkness as the electrical line men still work hard to bring back the electric connection of the entire town.
May this year be well for everyone as the year is ending.
