The correct road

How was I to know? At that time, I was happy. I thought it would last forever, but it didn't. So much walking in that direction, fulfilling intermediate goals, deceived me with fleeting and vain joys, shortly after the void returned. Without realizing it, I was straying from the right path.

I thought I knew everything. Maybe it was my biggest mistake. Allowing myself to be carried away by the illusion of my ego, I exalted what I shouldn't have, rushing into a deep cavern. What I believed to be light was a glow of darkness. I was blind, seeing; deaf, listening; but above all, insensitive, feeling.

I thought I was on top of the world when, in reality, I was descending into the depths. The taller I looked, the deeper I felt. Increasing dissonance chimed like a steeple, dispelling the haze of enveloping ignorance.

How was I to know? Autumn has come into my life, and the fear of winter terrifies me. Fortunately, now I see, hear, and feel as I search for the tropics. It is never too late to change course and enjoy the journey back to the right path. Each step that descends in my ego, more light will enter my soul, revealing the real goal, and the joy will increase with each stage of self-knowledge.
