This is about adults who cross the lines with children!馃槧
I found out that my daughter had been befriended by an adult male.
He had met her during the kid's game Roblox.
From there they chatted via Snapchat & Facebook.
I noticed that my daughter wanted privacy online.
We normally allow this for when she talks to her school friends, however, when I went to ask her a question, her bodylanguage showed a high level of secrecy.
She admitted that she had been chatting to a guy who was an adult.
I explained my concern that it might be inappropriate and she let me read the chat history.
It was clear that this person was slowly moving the conversation from childish chitchat to more adult type conversation.
There was a weeks worth of chat but nothing crossed the line to anything illegal.
I showed my daughter some videos about adult predators.
We then chatted to the guy making him think it was her and I demonstrated how deceptive he was.
Clear indications of a child predator:
They use phrases to make the child feel valued.
They use phrases to make the child feel guilty
They make sexually suggestive comments about kissing and hugging initially.
Their Facebook profiles contain nothing about their life.
They have very few friends.
They keep the "friendship" secret.
They do not ask about the child's external world.
They basically try to create a controllable bubble of influence using some basic levels of manipulation and cunning.
They are cowards.
They are narcissists and it is all about their own loneliness and suffering.
My daughter saw through this ruse and she blocked and deleted the individual.
I was going to leave it there.
But my conscience was niggling at me.
If this turkey took the motivation to befriend children via a children's game. Then it wouldn't be long before he did it again.
I knew that he claimed to be from the Mt Shashta area in the USA.
I sent an email to a Sergeant to the local police station.
There was no response after a couple of days so I called and left a message saying that my email wasn't spam.
The Sergeant replied that the individual was known to them and my email had been forwarded to a special unit.
I didn't take a snap shot of the interactions.
In hindsight I should have sent the chat logs, face pictures and so on to the police.
In this case it wasn't important but in different scenarios the information could be useful.
It is obvious that my daughter want to interact with people, particularly, with boys.
So, I rang her school to advise them of the story so they can educate other students and parents.
Also, we will work on a program of social interaction for my daughter.
To provide her more peer interaction and to find a hobby she could get into to meet other people her own age.
Today's technology age gets the external world into your home world.
Keep communication open and reasonable.
Your children need your love and guidance.
It was a great opportunity to work with my daughter to teach her some next level life hacks.
