Every once in a while we get to go to my uncles farm and I personally have a lot of fun there.
Now you are probably thinking why would you love being on a farm. There's no Wi-Fi, you have to watch for wild animals that may wonder onto the property, when you cook you have to go out into the garden to get your vegetables or herbs, your water is borehole water and for fun you can go to the river.
A long time ago when my uncle was young he was a travelling salesman for the mines and along with his job for the mines he was keeping bees at his house in the suburbs, the neighbors didn't like his bees and constantly complained about them. And so he took the income he had saved up from selling honey and working on the mines and bought land. On this land he built his farm. The Vaal river sits on the edge of his farm.
He and his wife have been married for a solid 55 years. Together on the farm they live each contributing to something on the farm. For my uncle he keeps his bees, collects the honey from the hives and tends to the fruits and vegetables. While my aunt cooks, cleans, shops, looks after the children and tends to the flowers and trees some would call her a typical farmers wife.
When we get to go to the farm I help my uncle out with the fruits and vegetables (never the bees I don't want to get stung, thanks) and I help my aunt out with cooking.
My aunt is now 73 and my uncle is 78. I have to admire them at the age they are and they are still working on the farm.
It is a simple but pleasant life and they are happy which is all that really matters.
