Hi Friends,
Sketching is meditative in some ways. It can be a way to clear your mind and focus on the present. It can also be a way to explore ideas and concepts. When you're sketching, you're not thinking about anything else. You're just focusing on the sketch in front of you.
That focus helps you gain new insights and ideas. It also helps you relax and de-stress.
Further, sketching is an important skill for every artist. You can use it to calm your nerves before you start drawing. You can also use it to calm yourself after you finish. By looking at your drawing from the start, you can be sure to get all the envisioning done before you start. This helps you focus on the present moment — and your drawing.
When I was back in CT, I bought a new sketchbook and have been adding new drawings to it at a somewhat constant rate. I don't think I shared any of these on HIVE yet, so today, I wanted to take a moment and share some of the works that I have been sketching.
The Koi is an image that inspires me often. So, I draw them a lot it seems.
This was in a museum here in Madrid. I stood around and drew it for a while. Love the statue.
This was a statue next to a small pond in Madrid.
This was that small pond as mentioned above. The figures on the bottom are the lions. One of whom I drew.
I was playing with the back tattoo and profile image a bit.
I asked my nephew for an idea, he said draw a bear, so I did.
Started to draw a foo dog, then sorta slipped into madness?
The fighting tigers, the Ying and yang.
Playing with giant hair blowing around and just having fun.
Started this one, then sorta got distracted... so it will remain, unfinished.. so I guess that means it is finished?
They need more love.. also I think finished / unfinished.
Standing and guarding the gates to the ocean.
I have a lot of fun with the backgorund as well, the patterns and shapes. A nice way to unwind for me.
I will do more of these, but they are sorta dark... I am not sure... also I only had a pall point pen for this, that died on me. So, IDK.
Although the jury is still out on the cognitive benefits of meditation, many people swear by its ability to clear the mind and promote feelings of peace and well-being. What is undisputed, however, is that sketching can have a meditative effect as well. When you're in the throes of creative expression, all other thoughts are pushed to the side as you focus on the task at hand. This can be a very liberating experience, especially if you're used to constantly bombarded with distractions. So next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or stressed, take a few minutes to do some sketching and see if it helps to calm your mind.
Thanks for joining me today on this post. I hope you enjoyed it and found it rather intresting. :)
Cheers
