Reasons for Wars: Understanding the Complexities of Conflict

Hello Friends.

With the war in the Ukraine, and global conflict on going, I thought about taking a break from my travel posts today and look at this topic.

I will also state that before getting into this article, I support Ukraine. My heart is sad to see people suffering. I also say, that I realized that there are other global conflicts and wars happening at this time that are tragic and on going that needs the world's support as well.

  • Disclaimer, I try my best to get the facts right and present some unique thoughts on the topic, but if you see any issues, please let me know. I may also overly simplify complex issues, to illustrate a larger point. Finally, I am not a political study major, so... :/

It can be hard to understand why people get into wars. After all, it seems like there must be a lot of complicated factors that led to war. But there are some things we know about conflict and warfare. For example, it’s true that the number one cause of conflict is a lack of resources. With an increasing population and limited natural resources, this is sure to cause problems in the future. Beyond that, here are a few reasons for wars you might not have considered before.

Lack of Resources

The number one cause of conflict is a lack of resources. With an increasing population and limited natural resources, this is sure to cause issues in the future.

We know that many wars are started over land or natural resources. We also know that these wars usually happen when a country has run out of its own resources and needs another country’s resources to survive.

For example, let’s take a look at World War II. Germany was running out of food, and they decided to invade other countries like Poland and France because they had more food than Germany did. This led to the death of millions of people in World War II as well as a war between Germany and Russia (World War II).

The Complexity of Conflict

Society is built on a foundation of various types of conflict. These include the conflict between what is right and what is wrong, the conflict between our own personal desires and our responsibilities to others, the conflict between one group of people and another group of people, and the conflict between a person's thoughts as they process new information. Conflict can be found in all aspects of life.

Conflict becomes more complex when you consider that there are different types of conflicts that can exist at once. For instance, on top of the conflicts mentioned above, there are conflicts within oneself (e.g., one's thoughts about stealing from someone else), conflicts with a person's conscience (e.g., whether or not to do something even if it breaks an oath), and conflicts with society as a whole (e.g., debates about whether some traditions should be enforced).

In an attempt to simplify things, it is often helpful to think about war as a type of conflict that takes place when two or more groups compete for power or resources over time. War happens when one group tries to dominate another group either by using violence or other means, such as superior strategy or weaponry.

Geographical Causes of Conflict

Geographic causes of conflict can be caused by natural disasters, like earthquakes. But they can also be caused by man-made disasters. For example, the war in Syria began because locals in Daraa protested against the Assad regime for imposing a drought on their land. People have been protesting for over six years because of this issue.

Ideological Conflicts

The most popular cause for conflict is an ideological one. This can be a political argument about government or it could be religious differences. The reason that these conflicts can lead to war is because people are so passionate about their beliefs. If you believe in something wholeheartedly, you may be willing to fight for it if someone else challenges your beliefs.

Political Conflicts

Political conflict is the second most-cited reason people fight. This can take many forms, but it usually means one group trying to control another group or region. Look at the Crimean War, for example. The Russians were fighting to take Crimea from Ukraine, and they were successful. In a lot of these cases, political conflict boils down to a power issue—the different groups want more power to themselves.

Even if you don't like politics, it's still important to know what the issues are in order to understand why there might be a war.

Conclusion

Conflict is a complicated thing. It can be caused by a variety of factors. This article provides reasons for wars and conflicts. If you want to avoid conflict in your own life, it is a good idea to understand the complexity of conflict and what causes it.
