Trump apologists keep insisting he was free to do as he pleased for 60 days, ignoring the plain wording of the Constitution (which they claim to revere) and deliberately misreading the war powers resolution they say justified it until now. That act was written to forbid the president from waging war, with 3 clear exceptions in the law: Congress declares war, congress authorizes force, or the US is attacked. None of those three were met, rendering the entire "but I have 60 days" argument moot. Obama set the precedent by expanding the "Global War on terror," but Trump didn't even bother with excuses based on an existing conflict. I think his may be the threshold of the 5th Republic, in contrast to this article separating us into 4 eras thus far.
