I agree with keeping politics out of sports. However, in the US, "patriotic" rituals accompany sports all the time. The national anthem is sung before games. The US military has jets fly over stadiums during the opening ceremonies for games like the Super Bowl. Everything is draped in flags. And in the Olympics, there is a definite sense of nationalism accompanying the athletes, at least from the audience perspective. Most don't want to see athleticism so much as dominating those foreigners, it seems. And if Vance is going to be there after all of Trump's insane tariffs, posturing against Denmark over Greenland, and disputes with NATO, it's hardly a surprise he'd get boos. And that shouldn't be hidden from Americans.
