There is a local community dinner every week where I live. It is not just for the homeless, but also for seniors and anyone else who just wants to drop in. The organizers visit various food banks to see what they have too much of, and other volunteers prepare meals. Different churches and community groups contribute labor. Cash donations are used to help buy extra supplies. It's been going strong for a few years now.
