One of my fellow librarians mentioned well drilling just the other day. She has property on a mountain, and the aquifer was a few hundred feet down. She said it cost $30k to drill a decade ago IIRC. She also said they went ahead and drilled another 40 feet into the aquifer in case of water table changes in the future, too.
